NEW Monday Devotional Series!

Did you know God longs to connect with you? Did you know He delights in your success? Did you know He is just waiting to take you by the hand and lead you? Did you know He want’s to rub your back when you are feeling down? Did you know He sends His angels to watch over you, even when you sleep?

If you’re anything like me for the first 23 years of my life, I DIDN’T KNOW these things about God! I didn’t know that knowing God was anything more than going to church on Sundays and trying to follow all the rules in order to be the best person I could. It wasn’t until an encounter I had in 2006 that changed everything. I said, “God, if you are real, than show Yourself to me.” And guess what? He did.

And that’s how the devotional book I am currently working entitled, Did You Know?: Intimate Truths that Might Just Change Your Mind About God, came about. In it, I share little snippets of Truth from God’s Word, that show the intimate side of God’s character, the side that is up close and personal. It is my prayer that after reading some of these messages, you will begin to draw closer to the Author and Creator of your soul. You will begin to feel the warmth of His breathe, the beat of His heart and the strength of His arms…around YOU, His beloved.

EVERY WEDNESDAY, I will be posting a devotional message from the book. Each one is designed to be read during a daily quiet time with God. First read the recommended Bible verses, followed by the message, prayer and challenge question at the end. Enjoy as He takes you into deeper waters with Him!

The first one is posted below…please offer feedback! What do you like and/or dislike? Any suggestions for improvement? I really value your thoughts and opinions, so thanks a lot!

DID YOU KNOW? God Wants to Take You for a Stroll.

Read Psalm 23

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:1-3).

I set out to take my daily jog.  I was going to do my normal “loop,” which took me from my apartment to Singapore’s beautiful botanical gardens.  As I picked  up my pace, the Lord spoke to my heart, “Just walk.”

“That’s strange,” I thought. I was used to running all the time. I heeded the instruction to walk, but it only took a few minutes before I grew impatient and started picking up my pace again.  Then that still small voice spoke again, “Ali, just walk…”

Finally, I gave in. “Okay Lord, I’ll walk!”

And do you know what happened?  Though I had done this loop a million times, my eyes were suddenly opened to the beautiful surroundings.  I noticed things I hadn’t noticed before–brightly colored flowers, fresh garden smells, the laughter of small children running around in the grass.  The sights, the smells, the sounds were amplified all around me as I allowed God to take my hand and take me for a stroll through His beautiful creation with Him. I felt such an overwhelming peace and joy within me.  I didn’t realize I had been missing out on so much!

What God reminded me of that day was not to focus so much on the destination that I forgot to enjoy the ride.  Since I am a person who thrives on productivity, I like doing things quickly and efficiently.  I tend to “run” through life in the fast lane so not a moment is wasted.  But I realized on the walk that day that there were precious moments to be had in the slow lane of life too.  God wanted me to let Him be my Shepherd, leading me–at His pace–to green pastures and quiet waters, so that I could relax and find rest in Him.

He wants the same for you. Will you let Him?

Dear Lord, I am sorry for wanting to rush through life, hurrying from one thing to the next.  Help me to slow down and enjoy what you have put before me.  As I take a stroll with You, restore my soul and open my eyes to all You have for me. Amen.

*Take-Away Treasure: In what ways might you be running through life?  How can you practice “just walking” with God?
